Seven Volcanoes Project is a bid to raise funds for cancer research by climbing the highest volcano on each of the seven continents.

Why?
While completing the Seven Summits - climbing the highest mountain on each of the seven continents - has become a popular pursuit since Frank Wells and Dick Bass completed the feat in 1985, summiting the Volcanic Seven remains a less-frequented but challenging quest for mountain climbers. Not only are two of the Seven Summits (Mount Elbrus and Mount Kilimanjaro) also part of the Volcanic Seven, the latter also includes the extremely remote Mount Sidley in Antarctica.

Honour roll of people who have completed the Seven Volcanic Summits:

1. Crina Coco Popescu (2008 - January 2011 / Romania)
2. Vyacheslav Adrov (2011 - January 2013 / Russia)
3. Vitaly Simonovic (2011 - 2013 / Russia)
4. Olga Rumyantseva (within 2013 - solo ascents / Russia)
5. There is one more - checking details.

The aims behind the project are simple - to raise funds for cancer research and raise awareness of esophageal cancer. Sophie lost her father to esophageal cancer in 2008 and his sudden passing pushed Sophie to carry out one fundraising event a year for cancer charities.

Mountains are an apt choice as Sophie's father had a great love for the Pyrenees and the Alps.
